Data Sources

In Entrusy, a Data Source refers to the text data that you upload or connect to for analysis. Data sources can come from various formats and locations, allowing you to analyze text from multiple origins.

Supported Data Source Types

Entrusy currently supports the following data source types:

  • File Uploads: You can upload text files directly from your computer. Supported file formats include:
    • CSV (.csv)
  • Entrusy Forms: You can create and fill out forms within Entrusy to collect text data for analysis.
  • APIs: Connect to your own data sources via APIs. This option is available for advanced users who want to integrate Entrusy with their existing data systems.

Data Field Types

Entrusy primarily focuses on processing text data. Ensure that the data you upload or connect to has at least one text field for analysis. Other data types, such as numerical or categorical data, are not currently supported for topic modeling however they can be included in the data source for reference in reports and dashboards.

Entrusy will categorize your raw data into the following field types:

  • Principal: The main content field that will be analyzed for topic modeling. (Required. Limited to one field per data source)
  • Time: A date or time field that can be used for trend analysis over time. By default will be the upload time. (Required. Limited to one field per data source)
  • Sentiment: A field indicating sentiment of the text. This field will be automatically generated upon any analysis.
  • Stat: Numerical fields that can be used for additional statistical analysis and visualizations in reports and dashboards. (Optional. Can have multiple fields)
  • Other: Any other fields that do not fit into the above categories. These fields can be used for reference in reports and dashboards. (Optional. Can have multiple fields)

Adding a Data Source

To add a data source, either navigate to the sources section of your workspace or enter any project and click on "Add Source". Follow these steps:

  1. Select Data Source Type: Choose the type of data source you want to add (File Upload, Entrusy Form, or API).
  2. Upload or Connect:
    • For File Uploads, click on "Upload File" and select the file from your computer. Wait for the upload to complete.
    • For Entrusy Forms or APIs, follow the prompts to create a new form or connect to your API.
  3. Configure Data Source: Provide any necessary details or configurations for the data source, such as naming the source or setting data field mappings.
  4. Save Data Source: Click "Create Source" to finalize adding the data source.

For detailed instructions on connecting to APIs, please refer our API Reference.

Managing Data Sources

Once a data source is added, you can manage it from the sources section of your workspace. Here you can:

  • View Data Source Details: Click on a data source to view its details, including data field types and sample data.
  • Edit Data Source: Update the name or configurations of the data source.
  • Delete Data Source: Remove a data source from your workspace. Note that deleting a data source will also remove it from any projects that were using it.

Using Data Sources in Projects

In Entrusy, data sources are linked to projects for analysis. When creating or managing a project, you can select from the available data sources in your workspace. You can also reuse data sources across multiple projects, allowing for efficient data management and analysis.

Each project can have multiple data sources associated with it, enabling comprehensive analyses that draw from various text datasets.

To view sources linked to a project, navigate to the project dashboard and click on the "Sources" chip. Here you can see all data sources associated with the project and manage them as needed.
